A New World (Dis)order? A Conversation with Lady Catherine Ashton

  • Appalachian State University Boone, NC (map)

Is the world getting turned on its head? As the US is redefining its foreign policy, the European Union is confronting the challenges of Brexit. Amid the tumult, world leaders are hurriedly repositioning themselves to deal with the new world.

Join the Government and Justice Studies Department for a timely conversation with Lady Catherine Ashton, moderated by Teri Shultz.

Lady Catherine Ashton, Baroness Ashton of Upholland, is a life peer in the House of Lords. From 2009-2014, she served as the European Union's first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Among other things, she negotiated the Iran Nuclear Deal alongside Secretary John Kerry and brought Serbia and Kosovo to a long needed agreement.

Teri Shultz is a reporter covering the EU, NATO, and the Benelux countries for NPR, CBS Radio, Deutsche Welle and other news outlets. She is also a senior policy analyst for Security Europe.

Professor Federiga Bindi, Dan German Distinguished Visiting Chair at Appalachian State University and Senior Fellow at SAIS John Hopkins University in Washington DC, will introduce the conversation.
